9344 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Corrections

9344 (2024). Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Corrections: How many times since 2014, if any, have inmates been denied access to rehabilitation programmes, by year?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that a person’s eligibility to participate in any particular programme can depend on various factors, including their security classification, identified risks and willingness to engage. I am further advised that Corrections does not centrally record whether a person in prison was denied access to rehabilitation and the reason access was denied. Furthermore, there are currently 9,600 people in prison and around 15,000 people are released from prison each year. It is therefore not possible to answer the member’s question as it is currently framed.
