9333 (2026). Camilla Belich to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What technology or software systems, if any, used by any department or entity for which the Minister is responsible have been identified as end-of-life, unsupported, or requiring urgent replacement since 27 November 2023, listed by department or entity, system name, purpose, and estimated replacement cost?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, I am advised that one system has been identified as end-of-life, unsupported or requiring urgent replacement since 27 November 2023. The system concerned is the Equitrac printing software, which enables “follow me” printing across the organisation. The estimated cost to replace this is NZ$200,000. For the Asia New Zealand Foundation, their website platform and IT systems have been upgraded from Windows 10 (discontinued/unsupported) to Windows 11, with no replacement costs incurred. Antarctica New Zealand is undertaking in-place upgrades of Windows 2019 Virtual Servers, or retiring them as part of business-as-usual activity, to be completed this financial year. These servers support: • File / Print Servers • Domain Controllers • Web Proxy Servers (to be retired) • SQL report Servers • Windows Radius server (to be retired) • Microsoft Windows update servers (to be retired) • NPS Servers (to be retired) The virtual infrastructure is located in Christchurch and Scott Base Antarctica, and there is no replacement cost. Antarctica New Zealand also advises that the Ross Island Wind Energy (RIWE) control system in Antarctica, installed with the Wind Farm in 2009, is over 15 years old and is overdue for replacement. It is being replaced with ComAp controllers that will provide a supported control system. The RIWE control system manages the interface between the 5 power generators at the United States McMurdo Station, the three 3 power generators at Scott Base, and the 3 wind turbines that is the wind farm in Antarctica. When operational, it also interfaced with the Power Store, which stabilises the RIWE power grid. However, the Power Store failed prior to November 2023.The estimated replacement cost of the RIWE system is NZ$2,162,593.
