9250 (2024). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Health: How will the Minister ensure that the frontline services in New Zealand communities stay open?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Health New Zealand has a number of initiatives underway in the current financial year to support frontline services across New Zealand. These include: - 5% more funding for all primary and community health services, including general practice. - $30 million for practices to assist with nursing pay parity - $24.4m funding uplift for high needs practices - $17m in funding to stabilise the after-hours and urgent care network nationwide. I am further advised that Health NZ is working with rural hospitals to support them move to lower-cost models of delivery, while still ensuring that core services remain available. In addition, Health NZ has a range of immediate and longer-term initiatives underway to ensure a sustainable health workforce able to support effective frontline services across New Zealand.
