Hon Chris Penk: The Māori Economy 2023, released in March 2025, reported there were 5,865 Māori owned construction businesses in 2023. Based on there being 80,613 construction businesses as at February 2023 (see the Key New Zealand economic and industry trends chapter of the Building and Construction Sector Trends: Annual Report 2023), in 2023 approximately 7.3% of construction businesses were Māori-owned.
