9184 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister for Building and Construction: What percentage of New Zealand's construction and building sector businesses are Maori-owned, in the year ending February 2025, compared with the years ending February 2024, and February 2023, listed by years?
Hon Chris Penk: The Māori Economy 2023, released in March 2025, reported there were 5,865 Māori owned construction businesses in 2023.
Based on there being 80,613 construction businesses as at February 2023 (see the Key New Zealand economic and industry trends chapter of the Building and Construction Sector Trends: Annual Report 2023), in 2023 approximately 7.3% of construction businesses were Māori-owned.
