9094 (2026). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: How, if at all, is providing “more detail on twice as many topics” going to deliver simplified reports and address parents’ concerns that the Education Review Office school performance reports have previously been “dense” and “complicated”?
Hon Erica Stanford: ERO’s earlier reports did not clearly show what schools were doing well or always recognise when schools were making good progress for their students. The reports often focused on information for school leaders and used language could be hard for parents to easily understand.
The new reports use plainer language, removing education jargon. They also include a colour coded table that clearly shows how a school is performing in 14 key areas that matter most for students (or 16 areas for schools with rumaki or reo rua).
