Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Economic Development: In the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies for which savings have been identified resulting from the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service, what demographic data is being collected about the number of staff being made redundant, if any?

Hon Melissa Lee: I am advised that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise holds demographic data on its employees for a range of reporting purposes. I am also advised that it is optional for employees to provide demographic information, so while this data can be used to provide some insights into the impacts of redundancies, it is not necessarily a comprehensive data set. I am advised that NZTE does not actively collect demographic data on redundancies.
