8860 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for State Owned Enterprises: What assessment has NZ Post made of the impact on postal access for communities that will lose a shared-site service counter, including the distance residents will need to travel to their next nearest postal access point, broken down by region?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that 90% of residents living in urban areas will still be within 4km of an NZ Post store following the proposed changes. In other locations, NZ Post took a careful data and evidence-based approach to planning the changes. In many cases this has shown people are already travelling to access other types of everyday retail services, and that has helped inform our decisions about where to retain services in other locations.
