Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: Does he agree with Corrections Briefing B4622 which states “… for many prison sites, staffing levels need to increase to continue to operate the prison network effectively,” if so, how does he intend to increase staffing levels, while proposing a 6.5% cut to Corrections?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that these decisions are the responsibility of the relevant Chief Executive and final decisions are being taken via Budget 2024. I am further advised that efficiencies and savings that Corrections are making will not impact the delivery of frontline services or the recruitment activities being undertaken to increase frontline staffing levels.
