8824 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: Further to Reply 7178 (2026), has NZTA referred any of the 488 impacted individuals to New Zealand Police for consideration of prosecution; if so, how many referrals have been made; and if not, why not?
Hon Chris Bishop: NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) advises me that it has not referred any individuals within the cohort to New Zealand Police (Police) for consideration of prosecution due to it already undertaking rectification activity as an enforcement agency under the Land Transport Act 1998. This work has focused on auditing and correcting licensing records where issues were identified. As part of that process, NZTA has kept Police and Immigration New Zealand informed of the audit programme and its outcomes, including providing information on individual outcomes where appropriate. This information‑sharing does not constitute a referral for prosecution.
