8821 (2026). Hon Rachel Brooking to the Minister of Health: What reason, if any, has the New Dunedin Hospital proposed number of Day surgical rooms been reduced from 30 rooms and 15 recliners (Dec 2022 design) to nothing (May 2025 design)?
Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that in 2024, Health New Zealand implemented a nationally consistent methodology for capacity modelling which itemises operating theatres and procedure rooms but no longer describes recovery spaces separately as a point of care, this is why the spaces are not reported. I am further advised that the New Dunedin Hospital inpatient building has 44 recovery bays and 16 recliners. The increase is due to the appropriate number of bays for the theatre type.
