8759 (2026). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Defence: How many complaints, if any, has the Minister, or any member of any office for which the Minister is responsible, been made aware of that have been made to the Inspector-General of Defence, and if so, what are the nature of those complaints?

Hon Judith Collins: I am not aware of any enquiries or disclosures received by the Inspector-General of Defence. Such information may be provided by the Inspector-General in his Annual Report 2025-2026. The Inspector-General of Defence is an independent statutory officer, with a mandate to conduct independent investigations and assessments under the Inspector-General of Defence Act 2023. The Inspector-General is also the appropriate authority for receiving protected disclosures in relation to defence information under the Protected Disclosures (Protection of Whistleblowers) Act 2022. As an independent statutory officer, the Inspector-General of Defence does not report to me on the activities of the office, other than through the Work Programme and Annual Report, each of which are tabled in Parliament. In accordance with the provisions of the Inspector-General of Defence Act 2023, reports of independent investigations or assessments are published on the Inspector-General’s website.
