Tamatha Paul to the Minister of Housing: What Kāinga Ora projects, if any, have been cancelled or put under review since the outcome of the delivery pipeline review was announced in June 2025, and what is the value, address, number of units, and date cancelled or put under review, for each of those projects, as of March 2026?

Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that following the review of the existing projects in the pipeline, which finished in June 2025, all subsequent individual projects are subject to business case processes which ensure that their rate of failure is significantly reduced. This means there is no need to periodically review the pipeline and cancel projects as the project assessment happens in real time as the business cases are developed using metrics which ensure value for money. Like any prudent developer, Kāinga Ora continually reviews the feasibility of its planned projects to ensure they can still be delivered within budget and that the original business case still stacks up. Further, any individual project may be paused and then revived following further assessment, for example, for cost or the feasibility of the site. Some may be cancelled. While Kāinga Ora may not proceed with some developments as originally planned, the vast majority of the houses in its pipeline will be delivered in the coming financial years.
