8686 (2025). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: What is the total change in the number of victimizations of violent crime in New Zealand under the government's target for reduced violent crime from the number of victimizations that existed when that target was put in place?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: I am advised that according to the New Zealand Crime and Victim Survey (the Government’s measure for violent crime), there were 185,000 victims of violent crime in the 12 months to October 2023. This is considered the baseline measure for the violent crime target. In the 12 months to October 2024, there were 191,000 victims of violent crime. This represents an increase of 6,000 victims between October 2023 and October 2024.
