Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the last quarter (October – December 2023) toward the objective ‘Reduce stigma and discrimination for people with hepatitis C who inject drugs’ under ‘Focus area 2: Prevention and harm reduction’ in the National Hepatitis C Action Plan?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during the October – December 2023 quarter, Health New Zealand progressed plans for a national approach to raising awareness about hepatitis C, with the aim of increasing the number of people being tested and seeking treatment. This planning includes a focus on how to reduce stigma for people who are injecting, or had injected, drugs.
