8596 (2026). Steve Abel to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: Will the Westland Mineral Sands mineral sand ore extraction at the Mananui mine in Hokitika have independent oversight for exposure to ionising radiation?

Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that the role of WorkSafe New Zealand does not include proactive exposure monitoring of health risks such as ionising radiation. I am further advised that any reporting requirements for this type of work would be outlined as part of the resourcing consent conditions, which are publicly available.
