8576 (2026). Scott Willis to the Associate Minister for Energy: What government’s assessment has occurred, if any, to measure the potential impact of fuel supply if global fuel supply disruptions continue?
Hon Shane Jones: The Government, through MBIE, is actively assessing New Zealand’s fuel supply position in light of ongoing global fuel market disruptions.
MBIE monitors fuel stocks and supply chains on an ongoing basis, working closely with fuel companies and other agencies through established fuel security arrangements. This includes regular assessment of domestic fuel stocks, supply routes, and international market conditions, and publishing weekly public updates where appropriate.
These assessments inform government readiness and ensure contingency arrangements are in place should global disruptions persist or escalate.
Further information on this can be found on the MBIE website that is updated weekly: https://www.mbie.govt.nz/about/news/fuel-stocks-update
