8568 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: What progress has been made toward the Government's goal of 10,000 public EV charge points by 2030, and how many charge points currently exist nationwide?

Hon Chris Bishop: As Minister of Transport, I can confirm that the Government has established the EV Charging Infrastructure Loans programme. Applications for the programme closed on 22 July 2025 and an announcement on outcomes and next steps will be made shortly. I am advised there were 1,816 public charge points in New Zealand as at 23 February 2026. The recent jump in the total figure is due to a large set of existing Meridian charge points being added to the database.
