8563 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: How does he reconcile the Government's stated commitment to the 10,000 charge point target with the fact that 88 new charge points were added in all of 2025?

Hon Chris Bishop: As Minister of Transport, I can confirm that the Government is committed to targeting 10,000 public EV charge points by 2030. To support reaching this target, the Government established the EV Charging Infrastructure Loans programme. Applications for the programme closed on 22 July 2025 and an announcement on outcomes and next steps will be made shortly. The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority's charge point figures are expected to slightly underestimate the total number of charge points, as it is voluntary for charge point operators to register their chargers in EVRoam.
