8392 (2024). Arena Williams to the Minister for State Owned Enterprises: Does the Minister agree with the Postal Workers Union that New Zealand Post, as a state-owned enterprise, is required to provide good and fair working conditions to its staff, including postal delivery workers?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: NZ Post is required by section 4(1)(b) of the State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986 to be a good employer, which is defined by section 4(2) as “an employer who operates a personnel policy containing provisions generally accepted as necessary for the fair and proper treatment of employees in all aspects of their employment, including provisions requiring (a) good and safe working conditions; and (b) an equal opportunities employment programme; and (c) the impartial selection of suitably qualified persons for appointment; and (d) opportunities for the enhancement of the abilities of individual employees”.
