Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: Further to replies 404 (2026) and 5313 (2026), can the Minister confirm whether the quarterly hospital and specialist services activity reports produced by Health New Zealand cross-reference facility type codes to separately identify activity delivered at private facilities under public contract, and if not, what is the specific technical or data reason that prevents this breakdown from being produced?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that Health New Zealand’s quarterly reports include activity data on some key hospital and specialist services outputs, and those volumes reflect all activities delivered or funded by Health NZ (i.e. within public hospitals or private facilities via outsourcing arrangements).   Health NZ’s quarterly reports do not distinguish first specialist assessments (FSAs) delivered by private providers; however, I am advised that the number of outsourced FSAs is very low.
