8310 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister of Police: Are hate motivated incidents of offending against the rainbow community on the rise, and if so, what is the Minister’s plan to address this rise?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that, increased awareness, improved reporting and recording of these crimes and incidents has occurred, however, it will be several years until the underlying level of hate-motivated crime and hate-motivated incidents in New Zealand becomes clear through the data.
