8265 (2025). Shanan Halbert to the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector: Is advancement of religion the charitable purpose of Destiny Church, and if so, does Destiny Church’s track record of homophobic and transphobic advocacy fall within this?

Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) that many of the charities related to Destiny Church have religious purposes. Some charities related to Destiny Church also have charitable purposes connected to health, education, and social services. I am aware that the Department has an open investigation into some of the Destiny Church charities. As the Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector, I am unable to comment on the regulation of individual charities.
