8187 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Finance: What criteria, was employed by the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies to assess the volume of redundancies in each department, if any, resulting from the Government's directive to reduce expenditure in the public service?

Hon Nicola Willis: I am advised that the Treasury followed the guidance provided to all agencies that – when developing savings proposals – they should focus on low-value programmes, programmes that don't align with Government priorities, and non-essential back-office functions including contractor and consultant spend. The Treasury is currently working toward a reduction of approximately 50 roles through attrition, the ending of fixed term roles and closing of vacancies.
