Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Transport: What was the total amount paid in redundancy costs in the ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, broken down by (a) voluntary redundancies and (b) other redundancies, and what was the average payout for each category?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that since 27 November 2023, the Ministry has made a total of $682,155.21 in redundancy payments. The Ministry has not confirmed any voluntary redundancy since 27 November 2023. I am advised that NZTA paid a total of $4,837,423.70 to people made redundant between 27 November 2023 and 04 March 2025. Voluntary Redundancies (a) amounted to a total of $1,702,567.69 in redundancy with an average redundancy payment of $53,205.52. Other Redundancies (b) amounted to a total of $3,134,847.01 in redundancy with an average redundancy payment of $54,049.09.
