Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Statistics: What was the total amount paid in redundancy costs in the ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, broken down by (a) voluntary redundancies and (b) other redundancies, and what was the average payout for each category?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the total amount paid to staff leaving Stats NZ via redundancy since 27 November 2023 was $10,070,503. Of this total figure, $5,430,109 was paid to staff who accepted voluntary redundancy, while $4,640,394 was paid in relation to other redundancies. I am also advised that the average payout for voluntary redundancy is $61,012, while the average payout for other redundancies is $57,289.
