8082 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: How many staff at ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible have been made redundant, broken down by (a) voluntary redundancy, and (b) all other forms of redundancy, and of those staff, how many have subsequently been appointed to a new role at at the same ministry, agency or department, if any, since 27 November 2023?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that WorkSafe New Zealand had 79 staff made redundant and departed WorkSafe as part of the 2023/24 reorganisation.  These kaimahi were not re-hired or appointed to a new role within WorkSafe.  The 2024/25 reorganisation process is not yet complete, so for this reason we are unable to provide final numbers on redundancies for this process, however we have had 6 kaimahi so far, as at 29 Jan 2025, who accepted redundancy and have since departed WorkSafe in advance. All efforts are made to reassign or redeploy an impacted employee before redundancy is offered.
