8060 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Finance
Written Question
Published date: 10 May 2024
8060 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Finance: What accrued savings, if any, has the minister’s departments, ministries and agencies (if applicable within their portfolio) realised resulting from the Government’s directive to reduce expenditure in the public service?
Hon Nicola Willis: As previously announced, Treasury has been required to identify savings proposals amounting to 6.5% of an eligible base of baseline spending. I refer you to my oral answer to the House on 14 February 2024 regarding the calculation of agencies’ eligible base (see Q7 here: Wednesday, 14 February 2024 - Volume 773 - New Zealand Parliament (www.parliament.nz)). The final savings that the Treasury will be required to make is being considered as part of Budget 2024 decision-making. This will be announced on 30 May, and the advice underpinning this will be released publicly via the proactive release in the weeks after Budget day.
