Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Children: What was the total amount paid in redundancy costs in the ministries, agencies and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, broken down by (a) voluntary redundancies and (b) other redundancies, and what was the average payout for each category?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that the total amount paid in redundancy costs since 27 November 2023 is $13.11 million. Of this: • $5.69 million was for employees who left by reason of voluntary redundancy • $7.42 million was for employees who left by reason of redundancy. The average payment for those who left by reason of voluntary redundancy was $59,878 and the average payment for those who left by redundancy was $47,275.
