7872 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: Have any of the ministries, agencies, and/or departments for which the Minister is responsible conducted or commissioned reviews or audits of their redundancy and reappointment processes since 27 November 2023, if so, when were these completed, and what were the key findings or recommendations?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that WorkSafe New Zealand conducted a review of their reappointment process as part of its 2023/24 reorganisation and again as part of its 24/25 reorganisation and included it as part of its consultation process. The key recommendations included: providing kaimahi an opportunity to select multiple preferences for reappointment or to Opt-Out, if preferred, ensuring the interview process was as streamlined as possible and included future line managers, and ensuring kaimahi were well supported for the reappointment process. WorkSafe’s redundancies process is reviewed as part of our normal payroll process to ensure monies paid are correct, and do not go beyond current staff.
