7739 (2026). Hon Jo Luxton to the Minister of Transport: What is the estimated total economic loss per day as a measure of GDP since the closure of the Waioweka Gorge on January 16, to present day, including estimated economic losses when open and under controlled access?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that NZTA has not carried out an analysis of the economic impact of the Waioweka Gorge closure since January 2026, however the SH2 Waioweka Gorge Corridor Resilience Single Stage Business Case, completed in May 2024, estimated economic losses of around $8 million per day during closures.
