Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister for Infrastructure: What is the government’s strategy to improve the quality of information in the National Infrastructure Pipeline, particularly as it pertains to lower-certainty projects and their potential impact on long-term infrastructure planning?

Hon Chris Bishop: The National Infrastructure Pipeline provides a central view of infrastructure project activity that is in planning and delivery across New Zealand. Insights from the Pipeline provide the industry with information to help coordinate, prioritise, schedule, and plan their projects and investments. Information in the Pipeline is provided by central government, local government and private sector organisations involved in providing infrastructure services and reflects the current state of their infrastructure planning and investment intentions. New Zealand’s long-term planning of infrastructure benefits from increased transparency of projects that are earlier in planning cycle that may be lower certainty projects. The information in the Pipleine provides an important evidence base to inform the development of the National Infrastructure Plan. The Comission continues to work with Pipeline contributors to improve information quality and completeness of information in the Pipeline, and evolve the information collected. As the Minister for Infrastructure, I have written to central and local government infrastructure providers requesting that they regularly updating the Pipeline with their investment intentions.
