7579 (2025). Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister for Infrastructure: What is the total dollar value of projects in the National Infrastructure Pipeline that currently have no confirmed funding source, and how does the government plan to address this funding gap?
Hon Chris Bishop: Information on the the total expected dollar value of projects in the National Infrastructure Pipeline that are earlier in the planning cycle and do not have a funding source confirmed is publicly available in the Infrastructure Commission’s Pipeline Snapshot report avaliable on the Commission’s website: https://tewaihanga.govt.nz/the-pipeline.
The National Infrastructure Pipeline provides a central view of infrastructure project activity that is in planning and delivery across New Zealand. Insights from the Pipeline provide the industry with information to help coordinate, prioritise, schedule, and plan their projects and investments. Information in the Pipeline is provided by central government, local government and private sector organisations involved in providing infrastructure services and reflects the current state of their infrastructure planning and investment intentions. The Pipeline is an information tool and not a funding tool. Unfunded projects are not indicative of a funding gap but reflect investment options and intentions that are earlier in their planning lifecycle where funding has not yet been committed. Organisations that contribute project data to the Pipeline will secure funding for their projects based on their prioritisation and investment processes.
