7543 (2025). Hon Priyanca Radhakrishnan to the Minister of Conservation: What criteria and who determines the value of Public Conservation Land?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation advises me that public conservation land is valued in different ways depending on context. For example, in the context of land valuation as required for accounting purposes, the Department’s Finance team conducts its valuation based on assessments of land values made under the Rating Valuation Act 1998. In the context of evaluating its significance for Conservation purposes in relation to its disposal under the Conservation Act 1987 or Reserves Act 1977, the Department formulates its advice based on a range of criteria including technical assessments carried out by relevant staff.
