7536 (2025). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: What is the nature of Aotearoa’s Paris Agreement commitments?
Hon Simon Watts: Per the UNFCC, The Paris Agreement requires all Parties to put forward their best efforts through “nationally determined contributions” (NDCs) and to strengthen these efforts in the years ahead. This includes requirements that all Parties report regularly on their emissions and on their implementation efforts. New Zealand has nationally determined contributions set for 2030 and 2035, they are for a 50% and 51-55% reduction of net emissions below gross 2005 levels respectively.
