7480 (2024). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister for Oceans and Fisheries: What decisions has he made, if any, on the options for recovering costs from the cameras on boats programme from industry?
Hon Shane Jones: In December 2023, I agreed to leave unchanged the Fisheries (Cost Recovery) Rules that were already in place for the second year of the transition period (2024/25).
At the time, of the $68 million made available for the implementation period of the
on-board cameras programme (2021/22 – 2024/25), I was advised that $6.8 million would likely be recovered from industry by the end of the two-year transition period in 2024/25. With updated information, I am advised that the current forecast of the amount to be recovered by the end of the transition period is approximately $5.5 million.
