7434 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: What training do Kāinga Ora staff receive on the distinction between tenant-caused damage and fair wear and tear under the Residential Tenancies Act 1986; and when was that training last updated?

Hon Tama Potaka: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that training is provided to all customer-facing staff on the management of damage. This training covers how to undertake an assessment to determine whether a tenant is liable for the cost of the repair in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act 1986. This training was last updated and delivered to customer-facing staff in August and September 2025, via online sessions.
