7424 (2025). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What aid or assistance, if any, has the Government provided to Rwanda over the last 4 years, by type and monetary value?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: Since 2021, under the New Zealand International Development Cooperation Programme, NZ $6.53 million has been provided for the people of Rwanda. No funding is provided directly to the Government of Rwanda. New Zealand support directly benefited scholars from Rwanda through the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships Programme. Eleven scholars have received scholarships since 2021, valued at NZ $156,417. New Zealand contributes to several multi-country initiatives to develop capacity on climate-smart agriculture. This funding delivered through non-government organisations totalled NZ $6.22 million between 2021-2024. Under a geothermal energy partnership with the African Union Commission, technical assistance has been provided valued at approximately NZ$126,000. The New Zealand Embassy in Ethiopia, under its head of Embassy Fund, provides small grants to community organisations, and has supported one activity in Rwanda with a focus on education and peacebuilding at a value of NZ $24,955.
