7418 (2025). Hūhana Lyndon to the Minister of Health: What evaluations, if any, were conducted on the bowel cancer screening pilot for Māori and Pacific people aged 50 and above, and what were the findings of these evaluations?
Hon Simeon Brown: Our Government is focused on delivering timely, quality healthcare for all New Zealanders. I am advised that an evaluation was undertaken for the Waikato district pilot, which had a number of findings, including that overall participation for the age-range is lower than participation of the existing eligible age groups for both Māori and Pacific peoples. Our Government has approved additional funding for targeted initiatives that aim to increase screening rates among population groups with low rates. I refer the Member to the attached table, which compares the outcomes of the previous government's bowel cancer screening proposal with our Government's recent bowel cancer screening announcement.
