7403 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Education: What particular programmes or actions (if any) is the minister and/or the department undertaking to ensure children who are resident at the Gloriavale Christian Community are properly educated?

Hon Erica Stanford: Some children within the Gloriavale Christian Community are enrolled in Gloriavale Christian School , some are home educated, and others enrolled in Te Kura. On 28 November 2023 the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) issued a Notice to Comply to Gloriavale Christian School following a Special Review where Education Review Office (ERO) found the school to be non-compliant in six of the eight registration criteria for a private school. The Ministry is receiving fortnightly reports and visiting monthly to monitor the progress of the plan the school has developed in response to the Notice to Comply. The Ministry has informed me that the school has brought in a range of supports. ERO indicated in their Special Review they will return within the year. Any applications for Home Education have been processed as per Ministry policy and where they meet the criteria have been approved. ERO indicated in their Special Review they will be reviewing home education in Gloriavale. Te Kura is responsible for ensuring quality education to those students enrolled with them.
