7378 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Associate Minister of Education: What plans, if any, are in place to ensure that regional/rural schools have the capacity and resources to facilitate the Attendance Action Plan?

Hon David Seymour: The attendance action plan focuses on getting students back to school, not introducing additional burdens on schools. It highlights the shared responsibility for improving school attendance and acknowledges this should not be left just to schools to solve. I am focused on setting out our clear expectations for parents and schools, and providing more timely data, information, guidance, and resources to help them succeed. I understand local Ministry of Education staff are in regular contact with schools in their areas and can support them with the implementation of the attendance action plan initiatives as needed.
