7312 (2026). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: Has the Minister requested a Health New Zealand review into systemic failures within crisis helpline services; if so, when will this information be released?

Hon Matt Doocey: As the Minister for Mental Health, I have commissioned an independent review of mental health and addiction telehealth services. The review will examine how services identify and respond to risk, including procedures in place for escalating calls and the effectiveness of those arrangements. The review will be undertaken an independent advisory panel with expertise in clinical practice, digital service delivery, and lived experience of mental health and addiction. The Ministry of Health will have oversight of the review and the panel’s finding are expected in mid 2026.
