7307 (2025). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: How, if at all, does the Ministry determine how to provide school transport assistance to students where distance or a lack of public transport presents a barrier to education?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that where a student meets the Ministry’s eligibility criteria, the Ministry may provide: • access to a free school bus service, and/or • a Conveyance Allowance to help caregivers with the costs of getting their child to and from school. I am also advised that to determine what assistance may be provided, the Ministry takes into account factors such as the viability and potential timetable of a bus route.
