7105 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Associate Minister of Housing: How many Kāinga Ora tenants, if any, have been removed from their properties so far this year, by region and reason?
Hon Tama Potaka: I have interpreted your question to be for evictions. Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that ‘eviction’ is a specific process involving the Tenancy Tribunal and the District Court, which only happens if a person refuses to leave the property after their tenancy has ended. Five evictions took place in January and February 2025, in the following regions: Taranaki/Whanganui/ Manawatu, North and West Auckland, Central and East Auckland, Waikato and Counties Manukau. The reasons these tenancies were originally terminated include rent arrears, disruptive behaviour, 90-day notice expiry, and property condition.
