7099 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Associate Minister of Education: How many charter schools are currently operating, or have been approved to operate in New Zealand?

Hon David Seymour: I am advised that as at 3 March 2026, there are 17 charter schools currently operating in New Zealand. A further 7 charter schools have been approved to operate, subject to successful contract negotiations. Once all contract requirements are completed, a total of 24 charter schools will be operating across New Zealand.
