Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: Further to his reply to Oral Question No. 5 on 19 December 2023, has he seen any evidence that Kāinga Ora is unable to manage its current debt in a way that allows it to continue building more public homes for our communities, if not, what advice, if any, has he received that led to his concerns about Kāinga Ora’s ability to manage its debt into the future?

Hon Chris Bishop: The Independent Review was commissioned to give Ministers greater visibility over the performance of Kāinga Ora as significant levels of debt have been set aside for Social Housing. As noted in response to WPQ 7089 (2024), Ministers received the final report from the Independent Review on 19 April 2024 and it is currently being considered.
