7077 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: What is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development's forecast of Income-Related Rents (IRRS) places and IRRS cost per place for each year of 2023-2029?

Hon Chris Bishop: At the end of January 2025, there were 81,583 social housing places which were supported by the Income Related Rent Subsidy (IRRS). Budget 2023 funded 3,000 IRRS places, which are currently in delivery. Budget 2024 allocated $140 million to support the delivery of an additional 1,500 social housing places over 2025/26 and 2026/27. Future delivery beyond these allocations will depend on any subsequent Budget decisions. The actual and forecast average IRRS cost per place per annum from June 2023 to June 2029 is as follows: • June 2023: $18,145 (actual) • June 2024: $19,631 (actual) • June 2025: $21,025 (forecast) • June 2026: $21,565 (forecast) • June 2027: $22,109 (forecast) • June 2028: $22,677 (forecast) • June 2029: $23,269 (forecast).
