7070 (2024). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many state homes were sold each calendar year between 2008 and 2023 and does he expect sales of state homes to increase or decrease over the next three years?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that it’s records of state home sales go back to 1 July 2009. The attachment provides the number of state home sales by calendar year between 2010 and 2023. As was publicly reported in February 2024, Treasury advice indicated that Kāinga Ora was forecasting the sale of 10,000 homes over the next four years. Kāinga Ora is currently subject to an independent review into its financial situation, procurement, and asset management. It is critical that Kāinga Ora is focused on efficiently building social houses for people in need while also delivering value for taxpayers’ money, and this review will provide recommendations to ensure that these objectives are being met.
