7057 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: Did the Minister or his office request any advice on the climate impact of 'cut[ting] coal mining consent red tape' as announced by Minister Jones 16th April?

Hon Simon Watts: The Government regularly assesses the climate impacts of policies. Officials determined that a Climate Implications of Policy Assessment (CIPA) was not applicable for Mining proposals for RMA Amendment Bill 1, as the Bill's emissions impact was likely to be indirect. Direct emissions impacts are needed to trigger a CIPA. Officials are currently reviewing these requirements in the ongoing CIPA review. I have not requested any additional specific advice Mining proposals for RMA Amendment Bill 1. This Government is committed to achieving our climate targets. We have made the first two emissions budgets to 2030 part of our nine Government targets recently announced by the Prime Minister. We will outline how we will meet the target through the second Emissions Reduction Plan, which is due for release at the end of this year.
