7048 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: Does the Minister believe that incentivising more coal mining is bad for climate change, and makes it harder to meet our emissions targets?

Hon Simon Watts: I believe fossil fuels like coal play a role in our energy transition, particualrly in dry years where renewable energy is less abundant. The government has committed to doubling New Zealand's renewable energy to increase the supply of renewable energy and reduce reliance on other fuels.
