7042 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: Is Aotearoa New Zealand no longer committed to phasing out coal mining?

Hon Simon Watts: I believe fossil fuels like coal play a role in our energy transition, particualrly in dry years where renewable energy is less abundant. The government has committed to doubling New Zealand's renewable energy to increase the supply of renewable energy and reduce reliance on other fuels.
